Biography

Hey there! I'm Kay.
You know, being a filmmaker is a bit like being an explorer. I'm always on the move, camera in hand, ready to jump into my next adventure. Each new place I visit, every culture I dive into, it's like turning a page in a book full of amazing, real stories. Ever had one of those moments where something is so beautiful or intriguing that you just can't put it into words? Well, that's me a lot of the time. Trying to capture that beauty in my films can be a challenge, but I love it. It's like a game that I'm determined to win! Over the years, I've kind of developed my own style. People say my films have a special blend of colors - think of it as my trademark. Every shot is a mission to find the perfect frame that just screams, ”Wow”.

So, here's the thing. My journey is all about showing that if you're really passionate about something, you can make great stuff happen. As you watch my films, I hope you feel inspired to step out into the world and find your own stories. And remember, every picture you take, every story you share - it's all part of this big, wonderful, messy story we're all creating together as humans.

How I Rise: Take a Leap of Faith

I want to talk to you about a little something called ”rise.” Now, this isn't about getting up in the morning, though there might be some parallels there. No, this is about rising against the odds, facing the unknown, and taking the leap of faith.Let me take you back to a crucial point in my life. Picture this: I was standing on the precipice of a new chapter - my first day of college. Everyone around me was buzzing with excitement and nerves. But as I was about to step into that world, something tugged at me. A voice in my head, a dream that wouldn't let go. I wanted to be a filmmaker. Not just any filmmaker, but a freelance one, exploring the world, camera in hand, capturing the raw and real essence of life.

So, I did something that would change my life forever. I decided to not go to college that day. I walked away from the conventional path and chose to follow my dream. It was my ”leap of faith” moment, and it's the core of a video I created, aptly named ”Take a Leap of Faith” The rise for me is about that exact moment when I decided to defy the norm, to go against the current. It's about the struggle of leaving behind everything familiar and comfortable, and the triumph of creating a space for myself in the world of filmmaking.

Rise isn't just about getting up when you've fallen; it's about elevating yourself, pursuing what you truly desire, even when it's not the easiest path to take. It's about standing tall against the winds of doubt, uncertainty, and fear. And you know what? It's been quite the ride! I want my journey to inspire each one of you. We all have dreams, passions that make our hearts beat faster. So, remember this - don't be afraid to rise, to take that leap of faith. Life is a canvas waiting for your brush strokes. So go ahead, paint it the way you want. As they say, the sky's the limit!

What Travelling Has Taught Me

This piece was inspired by my travels and adventures, from the dusty trails of Africa to multi-day hikes in the heart of nature.

When you think about travel, it's easy to focus on the breathtaking views or the thrill of new experiences. But beneath the surface, there's so much more. Every journey I embark on, every path I tread, it's like opening a new book, each page brimming with lessons waiting to be learned.

Take my trip through Africa, for instance. I met locals whose lives were vastly different from mine. It was an eye-opener. These encounters taught me about resilience, about finding joy in the simplest things, about community and shared dreams. And above all, they taught me humility and gratitude. Then there were those strenuous hikes, stretching over days, pushing me to my limits. There's nothing quite like the challenge of a multi-day hike to teach you about your own strength, about perseverance and patience, about the raw, untamed beauty of nature. And let's not forget those quiet moments of self-reflection under the vast, starlit sky - moments that remind us how wonderfully small we are in the grand scheme of things.

So, ”I've traveled the world to learn this” is more than just a travel video. It's my way of sharing these profound experiences, these priceless teachings. Because when you travel, you don't just visit a place; you live a piece of its story, and it leaves its mark on you.

I Traveled the Sahara for 100km on Foot

Now, this wasn't just about traversing sand dunes or chasing mirages. This was a heartwarming reunion with my dear friend Mohammed. I met Mohammed during my travels in Africa. He's a true son of the desert, having grown up as a nomad in the unforgiving Sahara, right on the borders of Morocco, Algeria, and Mauritania.

Returning to Mohammed's homeland was like stepping into a world that's as harsh as it is beautiful. Every grain of sand, every gust of wind, tells a tale of survival and resilience. The endless expanse of the desert, its silences, its secrets - they teach you things about life and about yourself that you won't find in any book.

Walking those 100 kilometers alongside Mohammed was an education in itself. I learned about the nomadic way of life, the value of community, and the art of navigating the vast, barren landscape. Most importantly, I experienced firsthand the warmth, hospitality, and resilient spirit of the Sahara's people.

This journey taught me that true richness doesn't come from material possessions, but from a life lived fully, embracing both its joys and hardships. It also reminded me of the vast diversity that our world holds, and how each culture, each landscape, has its own beauty and wisdom to offer. Through my video, ”100km Journey Through the Sahara,” I want to take you along on this incredible journey. I hope it stirs a sense of adventure in you, an appreciation for the strength of the human spirit, and a deeper understanding of our shared world.

Shooting Tip

If you've ever wondered how I capture the raw, real feel in my videos, here's a big part of it: I shoot at 24 frames per second (fps) most of the time. You see, our eyes naturally perceive the world a bit like a film shot in 24 fps. It's the gold standard in cinema and has been for years. Why? Well, it strikes just the right balance, creating a sense of motion that feels real to us, that's close to what we see in our day-to-day lives. But, I do sometimes use 60 fps too. You might ask, why not always shoot in higher frames for smoother videos? While higher frame rates can be great for slow-motion shots or capturing fast action, they can also make videos feel less natural, less like real life. It's a bit like seeing the world with superhuman eyesight - neat, but not quite what we're used to.

That's why I choose 24 fps for the majority of my shooting. It brings my audience closer to the experience, makes them feel like they're right there with me, living those adventures. And that's what my filmmaking is all about: sharing real, human experiences. So, there you go - a little piece of advice from my filmmaker's handbook. Remember, the best videos are the ones that make your audience feel something. And often, it's the simple techniques, like choosing the right frame rate, that can make all the difference.
