ViewSonic Releases 2022 Corporate Sustainability Report

Brea, California (August 10, 2023) – ViewSonic Corp., a leading global provider of visual solutions, has released its 2022 Corporate Sustainability Report – a comprehensive overview of achievements across an expanded scope of ViewSonic International. It provides an update on the company’s progress and performance in pushing sustainability. The latest report outlined its improved corporate governance practices in product design, environmental protection, employee relationship management, and community participation.

Celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2022, ViewSonic strengthened its corporate governance across product design, environmental preservation, employee relationships, and community engagement. Notably, the company’s evolution from being primarily hardware-centric into a comprehensive visual solutions provider was distinguished by two Harvard Business Review Awards, recognizing the strides in business transformation and sustainable governance.

The launch of the innovative UNIVERSE digital learning platform and the expansion of the myViewBoard user base to an impressive eight million globally evidenced ViewSonic’s commitment to advancing education, it reflects the company’s dedication to harmonizing powerful hardware, software, and services, into a cohesive ecosystem to improve educational experiences. Aligned with its Ecosystem as a Service Strategy, ViewSonic established ViewSonic College to accelerate digital transformation in education, empowering educators globally through professional development programs in digital teaching.

In 2022, ViewSonic cemented its environmental commitment by discontinuing mercury-based light sources in our LED and laser projectors. The X1 and X2 LED Projectors received the TÜV SÜD Low Blue Light Certification, making ViewSonic the first projector brand accredited for low blue light eye protection. Additionally, ViewSonic emphasized user well-being by integrating flicker-free and blue light filter technology into all of its Large Format Displays.

Diverse initiatives reinforced the company’s commitment to community engagement. Collaborating in Taiwan with the New Taipei City Government, ViewSonic rolled out UNIVERSE, an immersive 3D virtual environment built for education, benefiting around 400,000 students throughout the city. In partnership with the Tua-Tiu-Tiann International Festival of Arts, ViewSonic’s advanced projectors breathed life into historical landmarks, immersing visitors in 1920s scenes. The 3rd edition of the ColorPro Awards celebrated the global creative community, while the launch of the United by Play Esports Battle for Charity Tournament ViewSonic’s presence within the gaming community, earning Best Branding Campaign and Most Effective Digital Media Strategy accolades from The Drum Awards. ViewSonic also supported local charities through multiple philanthropic events including a digital art charity auction for Make-A-Wish, and the ViewSonic Cup Charity Football Match, which raised £8000 for the Rainbow Hub children's charity.

Our Innovation

  • Large Format Displays: 84% are Energy Star compliant and 25% are EPEAT compliant, with the ViewBoard 62 Series recognized with EPEAT Silver ecolabel. All models feature flicker-free & blue light filter technology, and LD135-151 was awarded Best of 2021 by Tech & Learning Magazine.
  • Monitors: 69% are Energy Star compliant and 55% are EPEAT compliant. Notably, 9 models are TCO Certified Edge 2.0 and Generation 9 compliant. Also, the OMNI XG2431 monitor was awarded Best of 2021 by Tech & Learning Magazine for its performance in educational scenarios.
  • Projectors: All LED and laser projectors use mercury-free light sources. The X1 and X2 models were the first in the industry to receive Low Blue Light Certification from TÜV SÜD. The X1000-4K projector received the 2022 iF Design Award for its smart and minimalistic design.
  • Software: myViewBoard global userbase earned Best of 2021 Awards of Excellence from Tech & Learning Magazine and expanded its userbase to 8 million globally.

Governance

  • Established an ESG Committee to formulate an ESG Strategy, integrating ViewSonic’s long-term vision and core business goals.
  • Initiated the “Ecosystem as a Service (EaaS)” program to optimize communication between customers and partners, bringing all stakeholders in the education ecosystem together to increase efficiency in the development process. Also, established the ViewSonic College business unit to accelerate digital transformation in Education.
  • Recognized for "Business Model Transformation" and the "ESG Special Award" by the Harvard Business Review’s Ding-Ge Digital Transforming Awards.

Committed to the Environment

  • Completed the submission of a commitment letter to the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi).
  • Achieved a product recovery rate of 80% and a product reuse and recyclable rate of 70%.
  • Iconic monitor models, VG2440 and VG2440V, utilize more than 85% recycled plastics in their design.
  • Implemented green packaging for 84% of VG Business monitors available for sale.
  • Measured carbon footprints of 149 models, representing a +119% year-on-year increase in carbon footprint reporting.

Responsible Supply Chain

  • All Tier 1 suppliers are certified for ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 standards, ensuring quality, environmental, and occupational health and safety management.
  • 75% of tier-1 suppliers are certified for ISO 14064-1, quantifying and reporting greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and removals.
  • 66.7% of tier-1 suppliers are certified for ISO 50001, focusing on efficient energy management.
  • Expanded the coverage of responsible mineral sourcing to include projectors & LFD product lines for Conflict Mineral Compliance.

Customer Commitment

  • Certified all LFDs and projectors for health, hazardous-free, and safety standards.
  • Maintained a record of no data breach incidents.
  • Submitted 245 products to the SCIP database to ensure SCIP Database Compliance.
  • Attained ISO 27001 certification for information security management systems to manage risks related to the security of data.
